Soon, we’re launching our Do More Than Drink campaign for the second year running, this time, with the support of more than 30 of Melbourne’s best bars. Designed to raise both funds and awareness, the campaign runs from 27 November – 4 December, and will help Scarf continue to provide training, mentoring and employment to young refugees, asylum seekers and migrants facing barriers to employment. The 2016 campaign will also incorporate a work experience element that sees eight bars offer mentoring places to Scarf graduates to further increase their skills, confidence and contacts in the industry.
For six years, Melburnians have supported the Scarf program by attending seasonal dinners where they Do More Than Dine. With this campaign, Scarf invites the public to head to one of Melbourne’s best bars to Do More Than Drink.
Providing a perfect excuse for a guilt-free drink with friends, Do More Than Drink invites Melburnians to get behind the campaign by visiting participating bars throughout 27 November – 4 December and throwing some dollars in the donation jar. The hospitality industry is also offering its support – with 32 of Melbourne’s favourite bars; including Smalls, Gerald’s Bar, Eau De Vie, The Rum Diary Bar, New Gold Mountain and Lucky Coq donating $1 from every drink sold on the final weekend of the campaign.
“I believe in supporting Do More Than Drink, because I think that the work Scarf does with young people facing barriers to employment is critical to strengthening the hospitality industry,” says Jess Ho, owner of Smalls, South Melbourne, a participating bar and prize donor.
All money raised through the campaign, from both the bar takings and the donation jar, will fund Scarf’s training and mentoring programs, which are designed to grow the skills, confidence and employability of young refugees, asylum seekers and migrants.
Be sure to enter the awesome competition we’re running in conjunction with The Urban List – a ‘Best of Victoria’ drinks and food experience for you and two friends, led by the amazing Jess Ho and Wiremu Andrews at Smalls in South Melbourne (value $250)!
